Cutters Edge - Truck Company Challenge

Hundreds of spectators who attended the Firefighter Combat Challenge in San Diego on Saturday, July 19th also witnessed the First Cutters Edge Truck Company Challenge Competition. Four Teams of two, from as far away as Omaha, Nebraska competed against each other and the clock in a challenge that utilized Cutters Edge Saws and Hand Tools to complete two simulated Truck Company rescue operations.

Teams were required to cut a ventilation hole within a marked area on the Roof Ventilation Station and, after the cut material goes through the opening teams raced to the Forcible Entry Station to select saw and tool.

After cutting four carriage bolt heads and a locking mechanism, they forced open the door and replaced the tools on the ground. Both team members proceeded through the door and one member dragged “Rescue Randy”, a 175 pound simulated victim, 50 feet to the finish line.

Thomas Ruzich, Cutters Edge founder and president, presented a MULTI-CUT Fire Rescue Saw to the winning team of Nathan Rohda and Ryan Tex from the Omaha, Nebraska Fire Department. In addition, the second and third place teams received a Black Star and Black Diamond Blade, respectively.
